I’m Trusting You, Lord by Yvette Phelps.

Straining to see out my bedroom window in the middle of the night, all I could pray was, “I’m trusting You, I’m trusting You, Lord!” Frozen, I stood there watching the intense actions of the men outside my ten-foot-locked gate. Just moments before, I was awaken by a gunshot so loud it rattled my bones. Someone had been shot – maybe a thief. I was all alone in our house. Our security guard never woke, and I had no human to protect me.

I hurried to get my phone and sent a text message to my husband, who was out in the bush twelve hours away. It was 2:00 a.m. and he was asleep. I sent another text to my son who was in the USA at North American Youth Congress. He responded with long distance prayer. I went to the window again, the commotion continued what seemed like forever, “I’m trusting You, Lord!”

I must confess, living life in Nigeria has taught me so many things, but one is for certain, I can trust His heart! God knows me. He knows my circumstances. The scripture enlightens us that even when David was in danger and held captive, he told the Lord, “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You” (Psalm 56:3, New King James Version).

The Lord gave me a song. The little chorus goes like this:

You are the God of the hills and valleys
You are there when I am there
You are there when joy overtakes me
You are there when shadows fall
You are there when pain overwhelms me
You are there to bring me joy

No matter what you may be going through, the Lord desires for you to trust Him with all your heart. In turn, the Lord will draw close to you. “The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him” (Nahum 1:7, New Living Translation). You may pray for God to draw you closer and may not know exactly how to do it. Taking that step in asking Him to help you trust Him will draw you closer.

Many times, when things were going seriously wrong, we felt a blanket of prayer hover over us. It brought peace in the midst of the storm. My husband and I have felt it, and we knew it was God calling upon saints in the USA or some part of the world to pray for our situation. Ladies, God is absolutely there! Just like the popular song “Way Maker” says: “Even when you don’t see it He’s working, and even when you don’t feel it, He’s working – He never stops – He never stops working.”

We CAN trust Him!

In every situation, including the night the gun fired so close to my bedroom window, God kept me. He brought an undeniable peace that enveloped the room. So, I will trust Him – I will!
